BREAKING: LEONARDO DICAPRIO BAGS FIRST OSCAR AWARD

After 6  previous acting nominations, the star of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s survival drama, Ace actor,  Leonardo Di Caprio has finally clinched his first Academy award.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s portrayal of a betrayed 19th-century frontiersman seeking revenge in The Revenant has won him his first Academy Award,
having missed out on 6 previous occasions.

In his acceptance speech, Di Caprio said "Thank you all so very much. Thank you to the Academy, thank you to all of you in this room," he told the crowd after receiving a standing ovation. "To my parents, none of this would be possible without you. My friends, I love you dearly. You know who you are."
He later shared his views on climate change and expressed to viewers at home the importance of taking notice at the world around us.

He also seized the moment to talk about climate change. Hear Him "Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters, the big corporations, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world," he pleaded. "For the billions and billions of underprivileged people who will be most affected by this. For our children's children and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed."

He concluded, "Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted."
It's been nothing short of an incredible awards season for Leo who received his first big win at the Golden Globes. Ever since then, the actor has been unstoppable when it comes to picking up trophies.
"I am truly humbled by this as it comes from all of you, my fellow actors," he shared after accepting an award at the SAG Awards. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

He continued, "For any young actors out there I encourage you to study the history of cinema because as the history of cinema unfolds, we all stand on the shoulders of giants. So I want to thank all the actors in this room who made this possible."
As for the Hollywood community, we got a pretty clear sense that they were all rooting for Leo Sunday night.

It is hard to ignore the ace actor as his commitment to the role had received a lot of attention. DiCaprio was said to have eaten raw bison liver and slept in animal carcasses. The film also picked up Oscars for best cinematography and best director for Alejandro González Iñárritu.

10 YEARS AFTER: REVEREND KING TO DIE BY HANGING.

We all remember Reverend king, the controversial pastor who was arrested for the murder of one of his church members in 2006.
His case has been revisited and 10years after, he has been slammed with a death sentence.

According to Tribune, the Supreme Court on Friday affirmed the concurrent  judgments of a High Court of Lagos State and the Court of Appeal which  slammed a death sentence on the General Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Rev. Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, a.k.a Reverend King.
In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, the apex court held that the two lower courts were right to have sentenced Rev Ezeugo to death by hanging for the murder of a member of his church.

The court, which resolved all the twelve issues the Reverend raised in his appeal against him, also said the first five count charges against the Rev Ezeugo was for attempted murder, with a penalty of 20 imprisonment, while the 6th count was for murder, which attracts a death sentence.
Justice Ngwuta, in the judgement held that the 20 years imprisonment for attempted murder was no longer necessary, adding however that, "From the fact of the case, the scene could have been taken from a horror movie.

"Having considered the arguments of parties in this matter, I am of the view that the appeal has no merit.
"The appeal is hereby dismissed and the judgment of the Lagos State High Court, which was affirmed by the Court of Appeal is hereby affirmed", Justice Ngwuta held in the unanimous judgment of the apex court.
Reacting to the judgment, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of Lagos state, Mrs. Idowu Alakija told newsmen that justice has prevailed and that she was happy with the judgment of the apex court in the matter.

Counsel to the appellant, Mrs Ann Ibinola said the Supreme Court is the apex court of the land, adding that it's decision will be abided with.
Rev Chukwuemeka Ezeugo (alias Reverend King) had challenged the judgement of a Lagos High Court sentencing him to death by hanging, which was affirmed by the Appellate court.
The apex court presided over by Justice Walter Onoghen had, late last year adjourned till yesterday for judgment after entertaining to arguments from counsel to prosecution and defence in the matter.
Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, who appeared before the Supreme Court alongside Mrs. Idowu Alakija, the DPP, urged the court to dismiss the appeal and uphold the judgment of the lower courts.
Ezeugo was arraigned on September 26, 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder.
He pleaded not guilty to the allegation but was sentenced to death by the then Justice Joseph Oyewole of Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, on January 11, 2007 for the murder of one of his church members, Ann Uzoh.
Justice Oyewole is now a judge of Appeal Court sitting in the Calabar division.
The Lagos State Government had said that the convict poured petrol on the deceased and five other persons and that Uzoh died on August 2, 2006; 11 days after the act was perpetrated on her, while the other five members of the church sustained various degrees of burns as a result of the act.
Specifically, Ezeugo was convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the attempted murder and death by hanging for the offence of murder.
Dissatisfied, Ezeugo challenged the verdict before the Court of Appeal in Lagos, but the appeal was thrown out.
’I hereby rule that the prosecution effectively discharged the burden of proof on it. This appeal is devoid of any basis and accordingly fails.
“The judgment of the High Court is hereby affirmed, and the conviction imposed on the appellant, (which is death by hanging) is also affirmed,” Justice Fatimo Akinbami who read the judgement held.
The two other members of the panel of Justices, Amina Augie and Ibrahim Saulawa concurred with the lead judgement.
Again, Ezeugo not being satisfied with the verdict, approach the Supreme Court, and urged that the judgment be upturned.
The apex court, in its judgment yesterday held that the killer Reverend must die by hanging.

Kanye West fires back at Bob Ezrin

Yetserday, music critic and producer, Bob Ezrin wrote an article on Kanye West describing  his greatest achievements  as “excessive behavior, egomaniacal tantrums and tasteless grandstanding”
Well, Kanye West didn’t take this likely and fired back at him via twitter. Read his tweets.

"Has anybody ever heard of Bob Ezrin???
What the fuck does he know about rap…I’m tired of old people that have no connection with anything trying to comment on music! Do something relevant… Please don’t speak on me bro ever again!!! Your kids are ashamed of their dad… Sorry for speaking about kids… but could you imagine if you were Bob Ezrin’s kids…I’m so sorry for them… I will send them free Yeezys to make up for the embarrassment that you have caused your family! Bro you said Macklemore was more important musically than me… no offense to Macklemore, he’s a nice human being! Bob please never speak in public again… you are everything that is wrong with the old guard …it’s guys like you that run companies and don’t invest in Ye even if I’m your kid’s idol!!! Rock and Roll was stolen… Rap was exploited…I made Dark Fantasy and Watch the Throne in one year and wasn’t nominated for either and you know who has 2 albums of the year. Welcome to pop culture!!! Ezrin I truly feel sorry for your friends and family that they have had to suffer an idiot like you for so many years…God bless the fools … all positive vibes!

Bob Ezrin blasts Kanye West in new ARTICLE

Canadian music producer and keyboardist, best known for his work with Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Pink has written an opinion on his blog about Kanye West.
In his viewKanye’s greatest achievements have been in the form of excessive behavior, egomaniacal tantrums and tasteless grandstanding.

Read the excerpts of his article:

Kanye in the NYT? WTF???
I feel like opening with “What kind of crazy, fucked up world is it where this guy is considered to be culturally important!!???” But that’s your line.
Sure, he made some great music for himself and others. But in spite of what the aspirationally-cool media keeps saying about him, unlike other creators in his genre like Jay-Z, Tupac, Biggie or even M.C. Hammer for that matter, it’s unlikely that we’ll be quoting too many of Kanye’s songs 20 years from now. He didn’t open up new avenues of public discourse like NWA, or introduce the world to a new art form like Grandmaster Flash, or even meaningfully and memorably address social issues through his music like Marshall, Macklemore and Kendrick. In my opinion, his productions are his best work – and I admit I’m jealous of several of them – but I don’t think he’s on quite the same level as Timbaland and Rick Rubin among several others. His songwriting – meaning the stuff with melodies – is sophomoric at best. I was embarrassed for Sir Paul – one of the greatest Artists of our era – by their collaboration, though it was pointed out to me that this got him his highest chart position in decades. So I guess he didn’t mind. But I kind of did!
Instead Kanye’s greatest achievements have been in the form of excessive behavior, egomaniacal tantrums and tasteless grandstanding. What he is a true artist at is living his life out loud – and shoving it down the throats of the rest of us whether we give a shit or not. He’s like that flasher who interrupts a critical game by running naked across the field. Is that art??? Maybe it is. Maybe as Caramanica says, life as “an unending data stream” is a new art form. But should it be, honestly? Hell, Forbes named this guy one of the 100 most influential people IN THE WORLD in 2005 and 2015!! Seriously??? Influencing WHAT exactly?
In the review of the endless new album, Caramanica wonders if “being slightly finished is the new finished.” And that just makes my blood boil. The great musicians, writers, poets, rappers, performers, dancers, players, conductors, directors and producers work all their lives for that one moment of complete perfection – that one brilliant performance, that one perfect song, that one enduring and life-altering work. 10,000 hours is peanuts in comparison to the real amount of time spent by true artists in their lifelong pursuit of excellence. But no one else that I have seen is this happy to have the audience watching all along the way. They are working to the culmination of something; to the exquisite feeling of completion that comes from working and reworking until that moment when their creation, or their performance, is as good as it could possibly be. This guy is just feeding the media machine and I’m not even certain to what end. Maybe he JUST needs the attention, like that flasher, and isn’t happy unless he’s the center of it.
What galls me the most though is the thought that he and others – especially the media – might actually BELIEVE that he’s an artist. With a capital “A.” That what he’s doing is of any real consequence besides for the sheer train wreck gawker value of it.
I don’t even know why I’m so angry about this. Except maybe I lament for a world where being truly, world-shakingly excellent at anything – at least in the field of popular music if not elsewhere – is no longer absolutely necessary. You can be a star today just by creating a public life that people pay attention to. That’s it. All you have to do is be interesting or likable or shocking enough and you can have your 15 minutes of fame…even if that means that no one will remember you or what you’ve done in just a few years. Line ‘em up. How many “popular artists” have come and gone in just the last decades. In my mind (which is a pretty busy as often too judgmental place, I will admit) real artists make stuff that changes the world and LASTS.
I haven’t heard it yet. Is that what The Life of Pablo is? If so, then I take it all back.
I just needed to rant to someone.

My first marriage was a matter of life and death- Monalisa Chinda

My first marriage was a matter of life and death-Monalisa Chinda
Monalisa Chinda, is every movie fan’s dream. In this interview with Oge Ezeliora of This Day, Monalisa unveils her dream desire to be married again, feeling being married is better than being single. She also discusses what failed in her previous marriage and her unflinching desire to love and be loved again. As a mother, Monalisa, says her world is incomplete without her delightful daughter and how many children she intends to have for her new man
How would you describe yourself?
I am a very joyful, determined, hardworking and highly motivated person. I am straightforward and take things in stride in a very positive manner. I am adventurous by nature and love new challenges as it gives me the zeal and impetus to work towards excellence. Acting for me is a major part of my life but I am also very passionate about charitable work which includes promoting autism awareness across Africa. One thing I firmly believe in is that one should always strive towards individual betterment, in whichever form it may be. I have a huge faith in God and he has been always faithful in many ways.

What was your childhood like?
I’m from a religious background. I ‘m an Anglican and all the moral teachings I learnt while I was growing up are still there. While I was seven, I was a member of my church choir. I attended an Anglican school, Archdeacon Memorial Grammar School; it’s a convent school. I’m quite religious.
As a celebrity, what does motherhood mean to you?
Motherhood is the most honourable blessing I have ever received. It has changed the way I live, think, feel and behave. Who knew you could feel so much love for someone? The only word I can think of is to describe it as a joyful experience.

Who is your greatest role model?
My mother, hands down! She is the strongest person I know; very supportive, caring and spiritual. I am grateful for all her sacrifices. If not her, today there will be no Monalisa.  She is a reason why I am alive today. I will always love her. She is a superwoman; indeed, a supermom.
Your daughter’s name is Tamar; why Tamar and what does it mean?
Tamar means the tree planted on the desert; it is a symbolic name due to the beauty and fruitfulness of the tree. The wind blows, the storm comes but the tree stays still. It also means the graceful and fertile woman. I have a good reason for naming my daughter Tamar. Besides, she is just too beautiful. She is everything I need now and each time I set my eyes on her my heart is filled with joy because she is a blessing to me. She is a special gift sent from above.
What is the thing you would like your daughter to associate with you?
One,  she has got a phenomenal mother who the youths look up to and most important, that she is  got a mother with a good heart, that is after God’s heart. She’s got a unique mother that cares and loves her to a fault.
What, if any difference are there from how you were raised and how you are raising your daughter? What have you retained and what has you changed?
There are no difference from how I was raised and how I am raising my daughter. My mother taught me very good morals; to always put God first in everything I do; keep his Word in my heart and hold unto his promises for my life. These principles are what I have retained and use in raising my daughter.
As a single mom what advice will you give to single working mothers over there?
Everything comes in stages; they need to have a lot of patience, be flexible and hardworking. As a single working mother, I know it gets hard sometimes to raise a child on your own. Through your busy schedule, it can be easy to forget that you are not alone when you have so much to deal with. Building your own support system gives you a shoulder to lean on when it comes to all the things that come with raising a child.  It’s great to surround yourself with life-minded people or people you trust to be involved in your everyday life. In my case, I am incredibly lucky to have a wonderful family and close friends who are always ready to help as needed. And every day I feel enriched by everything that is going on in my life. I am so proud to be a mother.

What favourite activities do you have with your daughter?
So many things; I do a lot of things with my daughter especially during weekends. Tamar and I do her homework together. We do colourings and watch her favourite TV shows. We even watch cartoons together. (Laughs) – Yes, I am serious we watch cartoons together and I enjoy it. We also do some outdoor activities such as playing on the swing, bike riding and shopping, which we both enjoy a lot.

As a working mother, how often do you have time to take care of your daughter?
My daughter is my happiness; so I always have time for her.  For me, I try to always work around my daughter’s schedule. By doing this, I give my all to my profession and her upkeep. Most times, we sleep together and I make sure she doesn’t miss my presence when I am out on set. At times, I take her out to most of the places I go to and at the end of the day she is tucked into bed. I set aside some time for myself and plan how to work for the next day. This is the time I will reflect over the day’s work and prepare for the next day.
As an actress, does your daughter watch your movies? How does she feel seeing you on screen and how does it affect her perception of you at home?
No, she does not watch them too often because of age; but each time she sees me on screen, she will scream ‘That’s my mummy!’ You know children and excitement. But she understands that I am an actress and she is happy.

What are the difficult experience in life or challenges you can share with us?
So many times; from my broken marriage to other physical challenges that I will not like to mention. Listen, there comes a time in any person’s life when you will surely undergo some difficult experiences in life. How you react to these difficulties is the challenge. As for me, I embrace them as they come and I trust in my God to do that which only him can do – give me resolution on overcoming them and moving on to the next phase in life.
We learnt that you are planning to go into marriage again. Is it true?
I would love to remarry. In fact, I’m designed to be under a man. I’m not going to lie that I like this single mother nomenclature. But whereby there is no one at the moment, one is bound to get used to the situation. It’s not a do-or-die affair because I have been there before. Anything I’m going to do now, it has to be done right. I’m not in the school of thought where the first one happened and perhaps, the second one. No, any bold step I have to take in settling down again, it has to be right. I’m not ready to make another mistake. But I will definitely remarry. I believe in the principles of marriage. Whether you like it or not, marriage is a better option.
So you have found love again?
It’s neither here nor there. I’m a lover and I love to love. Is there anything wrong with that? I just replied you that I love to love. What else do you want to know?
People are alleging that you are pregnant for him – is that correct?
You can see that I’m not pregnant. Naturally, I’m not pregnant for anybody.
Your marriage to Dejo Richards, crashed some years ago. Why did you choose to give marriage another chance and when are you tying the nuptial knots?
I love the whole concept and idea of love. I am open to love and marriage that would work. Marriage is always a better option and I love to be loved. I am currently engaged to the best man in this earth.  We just concluded the introduction ceremony. The white wedding is scheduled to hold soon but I will not disclose the date. But it will take place this year by the special grace of God.
If your ex-comes back to you today, will you accept him again?
God forbid! He’s a closed chapter in my life.
Your fans would want to know about the man in your life at the moment?
Yes, there is a man in my life and that is all they need to know about him for now.
How many children do you intend to have?
Although it depends on my husband, I hope to have more children because I love children. I have always wanted to have three children. Three is just perfect but it depends.
Do you still have any close relationship with your ex-husband?
No, because I am engaged to be married soonest. Yes, he is the father of my beloved daughter. He speaks to his child whenever he wants to.

What is your view about divorce?
One thing I regret most is the fact that I am divorced. Where I come from, I am the first daughter. I am from a royal family; it was never on record in my family that the first daughter would walk out of her matrimonial home. But it (my marriage) was a matter of life and death. Otherwise, I would have stayed back and make my marriage work. I tried to make it work, but it takes two people to tango. That’s the only thing I regret, having to raise my child without the father. It’s a bit painful. But I have to live with it. It’s better that way than to expose my little daughter to all sorts of domestic violence. It will definitely disorient her and affect her upbringing. She will be dysfunctional. God knows the best. May be, I should have been more careful and make my marriage work.

How do you stay fit and maintain your gorgeous figure?
I do a lot of exercise and I drink a lot of water and watch my weight a lot. Most times, when I notice I have put on some weight, I reduce the way I eat and do more exercise. I also combine it with healthy balanced meal daily, so that is my secret.
What is your view of Nollywood?
Nollywood is really growing fast. We are really exploding all over the world, not just Nigeria alone. I wish to see more impact outside Europe and Africa especially and I pray that God will help more people to be involved.
How many movies have you featured in since you started?
I have done so many. I have honestly lost count now and there are so many that have not been released and I am still doing more currently.
What turns you on?
Humility; music; I love lovely and romantic music.
What turns you off?
I hate people who are proud.

Ailing actor, Olumide Bakare discharged from hospital

Critically ill veteran actor, Olumide Bakare who cried out to Nigerians for help over his embattled sickness while admission at the University College Hospital, Ibadan Oyo State, a week ago has been discharged from the late Friday evening.
A source who visited the actor shortly before he was discharged disclosed that the veteran actor was discharged and placed on further medication.
Meanwhile, Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has denied a report that claimed that it stopped a member of the National Assembly from donating money to ailing actor, Olumide Bakare, who is battling with heart related issues.
Speaking on behalf of the association, its president, Comrade Victor Ashaolu, said also on Friday that he read the report on Facebook and was shocked that some people could be using ANTP to peddle such a false and wicked report.
A report had surfaced during the week, claiming that the association stopped a senator from donating N3 million naira to help put Olumide Bakare’s life back on track, because the actor is not a member of ANTP.
“I don’t know about any member of ANTP that would do something that is that bad to a fellow artiste. I have known Olumide Bakare for more than 20 years. He has been my very good friend and I can’t deny the fact that he’s not a member of ANTP.
Even at that, it does not stop me or anybody from the doing what is right for him. When I read the post on Facebook, I was very sad. Why would I do that to a fellow man when I don’t even know what will become of me tomorrow?. “ANTP will hold its NEC meeting in a couple of days and we will come up with a decision on how to help him in our little way. He’s an artiste and that makes him one of us even if he’s not a member of ANTP. We will do the needful. Whatever money we raise and give to him will not be made public,” he said.
In another development, President of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures’ Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Dele Odule, has said it was unfortunate that Bakare does not belong to TAMPAN as it would have been easier for it to have moved swiftly on his behalf and help him raise funds. “As things stand now, we will still rally round and put heads together. We have been discussing his issue for the past one week.
Even if he’s not a member of TAMPAN, we will pull resources and raise funds. We will raise funds for him in our little way and we urge well meaning Nigerians to rise and help save his life.”

Kim and Kanye yet to complete home, couple still squatt with Kris Jenner

Kim Kardashian and husband Kanye won't be moving out of mom Kris Jenner's home anytime soon - and Kim is not happy about it.
Pictures obtained exclusively by Daily Mail Online show their $20 million dream mansion in Hidden Hills, California lies in ruins - following a second round of renovations - and it likely will not be completed for many months.
The couple bought the eight-bedroom, ten-bathroom mansion in August 2014, and six months later snapped up the smaller four-bedroom ranch next door for $2.9 million.
The ambitious plan was to make the two estates into a super complex, but it has been nothing short of a disaster - with Kim keeping on their contractor with phone calls and angry emails.

The rapper also revealed to the world this week that is $53 million in debt - thanks to using his money into financing his projects.
He even took to Twitter to beg Facebook founder and billionaire Mark Zuckerberg to invest $1 billion in his ideas to help alleviate his financial burdens.
But the 38-year-old and his 35-year-old reality star wife continue to lead an opulent lifestlye - sinking millions into the place - including a reported $20,000 on fixtures alone.
The photos show the neighboring property has now been completely razed to the ground, but nothing has been built leaving just dirt, giant holes and piles of branches.

The swimming pool and pool house according to Dailymail have all been demolished, only to be replaced by a massive hole.
The smaller hot tub, which used to be in the top right corner of the property, is also a huge crater.
Daily Mail Online has also learned that building work has been dragging on for months and there's little evidence that the renovations are moving forward at all, which will frustrate Kim, who's desperate to move into their dream home.
Kim, Kanye, and their two children - North, 3, and Saint, 2-months - have been forced to live with with her momager Kris, who lives just a few hundreds yards up the road in the exclusive gated community - one of the richest areas in the US.

Changes: Neighboring property that the couple purchased for $2.9 million has now been completely razed to the ground, but nothing has been built yet

Kim recently confessed on her blog that living with her mom was driving her mad and was 'hating' it, adding: 'Living in my mom's house! I'm ready to be in our home.'
Space is so tight that Kim even has to keep her massive wardrobe in the garage and she's admitted that she didn't expect the renovations to take as long as they have done.
Family matriarch Kris was equally unimpressed with them moving in, and when she found out about their house shift, said: 'I wanted to kill myself.'
Jenner also added that the couple were due to be there for only three months, but that looks to be significantly extended.
She said in December: 'I just got word from their contractors that they will be here until the end of March.'
As the pictures show - March does not seem like a realistic timeline either.

I want to have two kids, adopt one —Tiwa Savage

Family planning campaign ambassador, Tiwa Savage, has revealed her plans to give birth to two kids and adopt one.
The mother of one disclosed this during a radio interview on Naija FM as part of an ongoing media tour for the family planning campaign with fellow ambassador, Paul ‘rudeboy’ Okoye.

Both musicians, along with comedian Gordons and Nollywood actors; Mike Ezuruonye, Adekola Odunlade and Ali Nuhu, were unveiled on Friday by the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative  (NURHI) as ambassadors for the campaign themed “Get It Together”.
Savage is enjoying the new role she’s playing in the ‘Moms Know Best’ campaign organised by Procter & Gamble (P&G) Nigeria, manufacturers of  Pampers Baby-Dry diaper.

The singer and mother of one who led the unveiling of the campaign In Lagos State recently described the development as an opportunity to connect with mothers and to learn more as a nursing mother.
“I am happy to meet with some amazing mothers who just gave birth. The babies were so adorable and beautiful. The mothers were exhausted after going through labour but you could see the excitement in their eyes and the love for their babies. I am hopelessly romantic- Adesua Etomi

Adesua Etomi is one of Nollywood’s new shining stars. In this interview with JOAN  OMIONAWELE, she talks about her career, fashion preference, among other issues.
WHAT was the experience like working on the set of the movie of ‘Knocking on heaven’s door’, the movie that brought you to limelight?

‘Knocking on heaven’s door’  was like being on a roller coaster ride, emotionally and physically. It was my first film ever and so I was quite green as far as film terminologies went.  All the training I had in the UK was for the theatre, so hearing things like CU, Medium shot and the like was brand new. I remember quietly pondering how we had so many takes quietly because I wasn’t about to blow this by asking rookie questions. I simply opened my eyes and ears and took in every single thing. I was a sponge on that set, determined to learn everything. So, in  a nutshell, it was like going to school all over again.

How did you land the lead role?
During my three months visit to Lagos, I travelled to the US for a while, when I got back I heard there had been auditions for a movie that had singing.  Naturally, I was sad that I had missed it, a couple of my friends had attended the auditions and even got call backs.  It seemed like something that would have been perfect for me. So I decided to send Emem Isong a message on Facebook asking if I could audition and explaining why I was unavailable the first time. She said I could audition at the callbacks. She and a few other people were on the panel. I auditioned and thankfully I got the role.

You played the role of a gospel singer and a victim of domestic abuse in the movie, do you think a lot is being done on behalf of women and children who are abused everyday in Africa?
I think the awareness for domestic violence is improving, it isn’t perfect and there is still a stigma, but everyday speaking out is less of taboo than the day before. People are constantly creating avenues to bring attention to cases of domestic violence. Several of my colleagues like OC Ukeje, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Kiki Omeili and I were part of a photography campaign created by Mr Nigeria — Emmanuel Ikubese called Project R.A.W. We took a series of pictures in various stages of distress to shed light on violence against women. That is going to be expanded into a bigger campaign. With initiative like this and with favourable legislation, domestic violence will soon be markedly reduced.

Were you initially scared of the big names before you decided to join Nollywood?
No, I wasn’t afraid. I have the utmost respect for my senior colleagues and everyone who helped grow Nollywood to what it is today. Their love for the craft and their discipline is enviable. But fear? No, I do not fear.
I understand you have featured in more of stage dramas than Nollywood movies, which do you prefer?
I love acting and whichever way it presents itself is fine by me. An actor is an actor, be it on stage or in film. Think of actors as vessels and these platforms serve  as our media. My calling is to act and if I’m contacted for a project which intrigues me, I’ll do it, be it on stage or in film. And when you love something you’ll jump at it, regardless of whatever package it is wrapped in.
Is Adesua a naturally romantic person?
I’m hopelessly romantic. My middle name might as well be romance. I believe that in life there are too many mediocre things and if one thing should be magical it is love. I love to plan elaborate romantic scenarios for my family and friends. You don’t even need to ask for my help, the minute you mention a surprise with a hint of romance I’m on it!

How do you handle advances of stubborn male fans ?
The people who follow my work are really sweet and polite. I don’t think I have pushy fans; maybe it’s as a result of my personality. I have fans that are goofy or sweet, never rude or stubborn as you say.

What challenges do you face as an actress in the industry?
In the early days of my career it was the challenge of being given an opportunity to show my acting chops. Thankfully with time this has gotten better. Now maybe it would be the challenge of typecasting. It’s very easy to find yourself in a box because of a previous performance. I have so much acting to give and I would love to show how diverse I can be, if given a chance. An actor lives to play different people.

Who are your role models in the industry ?
Everyone is great. There are so many bright examples ahead of me. I watch everyone because there is always something to learn. There are a few people I absolutely love and look forward to working with one day, sooner or later. I have a wish list and RMD, Kalu Ikeagwu, Rita Dominic and Kate Henshaw are on it!

Did you at any point think of doing a white collar job ?
Yes I did. Originally the plan was to get a job for a little bit and save some money to finance my acting career. All the positions I applied for and worked at were temporary positions. But the money was good, so it was easy to keep postponing my entry into the acting world. One day I quit my job at that time because I felt like I was being stifled creatively and I was not doing what I was meant to do. With the money I had saved up, I decided to visit Lagos and the rest you know.

What other movies and series have you featured in ?
Aside ‘Knocking on heavens door’, there is also ‘Brave’, ‘Gidi Up Season 2’ and ‘The Call’ which have been released. The others which will be out in the next few months are Uduak lsong’s ‘Falling’, ‘30s,’ MTV’s Shuga, ‘Las Gidi Cops’, ‘A Soldier’s Story’ and I will start shooting a film called ‘A couple of days’ in a few days.

What made you want to be an actor?
I don’t think it was a conscious choice. It was just something I was meant to do, something in my destiny, it chose me. It has been a passion of mine since I can remember. It is a calling and a part of my destiny. I really don’t have a choice in the matter. I can’t do without it. It’s an endless love affair.

You could have picked up a job abroad, why did you come back?
I did have a job abroad, more than one in fact. The last and longest was a year. In that spell I worked at a fashion company where I was a merchandising and buying administrator.  I wasn’t planning to move back to Lagos in the near future; the idea was to visit for three months because I had been restless at my job. Something was missing so I needed a break. I got on a plane to visit for three months and it has been three years since my “short vacation.” I stayed back in Lagos and decided to give Nollywood a try because after I landed my first film role, I got to see how Nollywood worked and I liked it  a lot. There is, of course, room for improvement and growth and I want to be part of the people that put it on the map. I love to act and Nollywood has given me a platform which I’m grateful for.
You are no doubt very beautiful, how do you hope to cope with sexual advances in Nollywood?
Thank you. Weirdly enough I haven’t experienced anything untoward since I got into the industry. Everyone I’ve met and worked with has been professional and respectful of my personal space. I find myself more in the middle of intellectual conversations rather than sexual ones.

What was growing up like?
It was a well-rounded experience. Everything I am now is a result of my experiences growing up. I can appreciate life better because of what I went through. I’m grateful for everything about my childhood, the times I laughed and the times I cried. The times I was happy and the times I was not so happy. It all turned out to my benefit.
 What were your childhood dreams?
To be an actor, above everything else this is what I really wanted to do with my life. I’m living my dream, I know people say that a lot but in my case I could not have wished for a life other than the one I have now.
 What’s your fashion fetish?
I like shoes. I always have the urge to buy shoes, good shoes.

Mum tells untold story of Olajumoke via @nigeriantribune

Mrs Ramota Kamorudeen, a vegetable seller at Obada market in Iree, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, is the mother of Olajumoke Orisagunna, a bread seller in Lagos who recently shot to fame courtesy of ace singer and photographer, T. Y. Bello. In this interview with Saturday Tribune’s OLUWOLE IGE, Mrs Kamorudeen bares her mind on her daughter’s sudden transformation. Excerpts:

How did you receive the news of your daughter becoming a celebrity overnight?
I was very happy when I heard. It is a thing of joy that my daughter has become an important person in life.
Was there previously a sign or prophecy that Olajumoke would be great in life?
There was no sign and we did not receive any prophecy from a pastor or alfa that she would become famous in the future. What I have always known, however, is that only God has the power to change a person’s status from nothing to something.

eventually smiled on her?
I beseeched God to open the door of opportunities for her, let her make it and let anything she laid her hands on in Lagos turn to gold. I prayed God to make her meet somebody who would help her. Those were my prayers and I thank God that He has answered them.

How would you describe Olajumoke?
She is a lovely child, well-behaved and easygoing. She does not do anything that can bring problem to her or others.

Why did her education stop at the primary school level?
After she left primary school, she told me that she wanted to learn hairdressing, so, we took her to a shop here in Iree where she started to learn the occupation. That was the reason she did not go beyond primary school. After she completed her apprenticeship a few years ago, we organised a graduation ceremony for her.

Now that Olajumoke’s status has changed, what is your advice for her?
I know that God does things His own way but my advice for her is to allow God to lead her in everything she does and listen to the instructions of people who have helped her to become what she is today. My prayer is that as God started something great in her life, He would continue to help her so that she would rise and become successful.

Has she called you since her life changed?
Yes, she has called me several times. She even called me the day the good thing happened and explained everything to me. She told me about how she was discovered by the lady called T. Y. Bello. I was so excited. I danced vigorously to appreciate God for ‘remembering’ my daughter. She has not come back to Iree since that remarkable thing happened to her but we have been communicating on the telephone. We speak on the phone at least six times a day.

Did Olajumoke grow up in Iree?
Yes, she grew up here in Iree.
What do you do for a living?
I am a vegetable seller. I have been doing this work for a long time. This is my stand. This is where I sell vegetables, including ewedu. Olajumoke’s siblings are in nursery and primary schools.

How do you see your daughter’s sudden fame?
God has done something so wonderful in my life that I cannot express how joyous I am. My daughter has made me proud. God has set her feet on the path of greatness.

What is your plan now? Do you intend to go and meet your daughter in Lagos?
I want her to settle down first. I will go and meet her in Lagos later. She told me that they would soon travel.

What about her husband, Sunday Orisagunna?
Her husband has gone to meet her since the time she was discovered by T. Y. Bello. One of Jumoke’s children is with her and the other one is here in Iree.

She should remember the daughter of whom she is —Uncle
An uncle to Olajumoke, Mr Isiaka Olubonku, also shares his thoughts and experience with OLUWOLE IGE.
What is your advice for Olajumoke?
My advice for her is to be patient. She should remember her parents always and be mindful of her background in Iree town. She must also remember what she has passed through. She should be wary of negative advice and be good to her relations and friends.

I took her in after my son impregnated her –Mother-in-law
Olajumoke’s mother-in-law, Mrs Janet Orisagunna, also speaks with OLUWOLE IGE on her daughter-in-law.

How did you receive the news of Olajumoke’s fortune with her pictures in newspapers and on social media?
She is my son’s wife but I treat her as my own daughter. I felt very happy when I heard the good news.

Since your son, Sunday, married Olajumoke, how would you describe her attitude?
She has always exhibited a good character. My son met and impregnated her when she was learning hairdressing. My son had phoned me from Lagos and said that if I heard that he impregnated a girl, it was true and he was ready to marry her. In the evening of that day, somebody brought Jumoke and mentioned Sunday as the one who put her in the family way. I said there was no problem and asked her to come and stay with me. Some weeks later, she brought her luggage and began living with me here. I soon went to meet her parents and told them that we had accepted her as our wife and daughter. Since she gave birth, I have been taking care of her. Sometime last year, she told me that she was going to Lagos to work and I gave her my blessing. She dropped her firstborn for her mother but when the child was sick, my in-law brought her to me, saying that she said he wanted to see her father (Sunday), who was then in Osogbo, where he was learning to make aluminium doors and windows. Sunday came to Iree for the weekend and we took the child to the hospital and thereafter, she was okay. But when Jumoke heard that her child was sick, she said she wanted to come and take her to Lagos and I said there was no need for that. Not quite long afterwards, she came to Iree and started staying here.

When you heard about Olajumoke’s newfound fame, how did you feel?
I felt very happy when I heard about the good thing that happened to her. I saw it on Facebook. When I saw her pictures and read the news about her on Facebook, I could not tell her mother because I was not sure if it was actually my niece or another person. When I was eventually convinced that it was her, I went to meet my sister, her mother, and asked if she had heard the news of her daughter’s fortune and she said yes. I know Jumoke to be a lovely child destined for good things. My prayer is that God grant her long life because this is not the last of the good things that will come her way. In fact, this is the beginning of great things to come for her. She is going to be known worldwide. I also pray God to give her wisdom and knowledge required to sustain her new status so that she will not misbehave or jeopardise her relationship with people. She has always been a responsible girl.
